SLUT The Play, will debut THIS AUGUST at The Lynn Redgrave Theater

“We run an all-girl theater company that develops girl-focused, girl-empowering feminist plays.  I’m reaching our because we’re offering FREE TICKET PACKAGES to women’s organizations.

As founders and directors of The Arts Effect All-Girl Theater Company, calling attention to the prevalence of slut-shaming and the profound impact of slut culture on the lives of girls (everyone, really!) has been the focus of our work over the past year and a half.  Our latest piece, SLUT The Play, will debut THIS AUGUST at The Lynn Redgrave Theater as part of the NY International Fringe Festival. Gloria Steinem says: “SLUT is truthful, raw, and immediate! See this play and witness what American young women live with everyday.”  Our goal with this play is to spark a conversation around this issue and inspire audiences/communities to join in a StopSlut movement – a campaign we’ve been thrilled to build with our wonderful colleagues Jennifer Baumgardner (Soapbox, Inc.) and Lauren Hersh (Equality Now).
So, in hopes of further spreading the word and bringing the girls/women’s rights community to the theater,

we’re challenging ANYONE AND EVERYONE to participate in our StopSlut Creative Challenge!

Youth, ages 12-22, are encouraged to share their experiences and feelings around all things “slut” using their favorite creative medium. ALL participants will be eligible to win over $250 in prizes (via a raffle drawing!).   Creative Challenge Guidelines are attached and also available at www.SLUTtheplay.com SUBMISSIONS DUE AUGUST 12, 2013.

We’re determined to StopSlut by confronting it, exposing its reality, and giving VOICE to those impacted by “slut.”
